Our Credentials

Anne L. Smith, Esq. is a regulatory compliance attorney based in Washington, D.C. She focuses on issues and policies that affect the digital economy, digital communication, digital privacy, and digital media.

Anne received her Juris Doctorate from the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law, where she received a merit scholarship and Dean's award. Her academic concentrations focused on commercial law, securities and financial regulation, and corporate compliance. Serving on the Journal of Law and Technology sparked her interest in digital law and policy, and her student article on data rights in the digital economy was later published in the Journal.  

During law school, Anne served as a law clerk for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice, the London Stock Exchange Group, and the District of Columbia Office of the Chief Financial Officer.

 

Prior to law school, she earned her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Georgetown University, where she studied business, finance, real estate, economics, biology, and sociology. 

Anne is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association (The Tech Bar), Internet Law & Policy Foundry, the Internet Society (Washington, D.C. Chapter), Cyber Law Consortium, International Association of Risk and Compliance Professionals, the Walter Chandler American Inn of Court, and the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation.

She is admitted to practice in the state of Maryland, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
